Now that your hide has been fleshed, washed, brained & softened its ready to be smoked.
To begin fold your hide in half -long ways. Sew the bottom together but leave a section open in the middle so that the smoke can escape. Make your way up the belly to the base of the neck. Then attach the sock.
Find a pair of pants made from natural fibers, cotton or denim works great. Cut above the knee and set aside.
*I repurposed an old pair of jeans from high school haha I skated many skateparks in these jeans. Happy to have found a great use for them.
Fold the sock inside out and slip over the raw edge over the neck of your hide. line the edge of the sock to the edge of the neck and pin in place clothe pins work great. Begin sewing around the neck make your way around.
Remove the pins as you go.
Once you finish sewing the sock to the neck of the hide pull the sock over right side out.
like this. Now you’re ready to hang the hide. Slip the bottom of your sock onto the stove pipe and hang the hide from the bottom side. I like to use a wooden brace or stick to evenly support the bottom of the hide during the smoking see the smoking section for reference.
